Microsoft Course 2285 Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows XP Professional — A 2-Day Course

Synopsis

This two-day, instructor-led course provides students with the knowledge and skills that are needed to manage Microsoft Windows XP Professional computers in a Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003 environment.

Additional information for Windows 2000 is also included explaining how it differs from Windows XP Professional.

Course Objectives

On completion of this Windows XP training course, delegates should be able to:

  • Plan and perform an installation of Windows XP Professional.
  • Install and support hardware devices and drivers on computers running Windows XP Professional.
  • Identify and resolve boot process issues on computers running Windows XP Professional.
  • Configure desktop settings for computers running Windows XP.
  • Configure security settings for Microsoft Internet Explorer and application compatibility for computers running Windows XP Professional.
  • Configure computers to run Windows XP Professional in a Windows networking environment.
  • Configure and support computers running Windows XP Professional for mobile computing.

Intended Audience

This course is intended for individuals who are employed as or seeking employment as a systems administrator or systems engineer.

Course Prerequisites

Before attending this course, delegates should have:

  • CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent knowledge
  • CompTIA Network+ certification or equivalent knowledge

And either:

  • Completed Course 2208, Upgrading Your Skills from Microsoft Windows NT to Microsoft Windows Server 2003

Or, completed all of the following courses:

  • Course 2274, Managing a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment
  • Course 2275, Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment

Microsoft Certified Professional Exams

This course will help the student prepare for the following Microsoft Certified Professional exam:

Installing Microsoft Windows XP Professional

In this module, students will learn how to prepare for and install Windows XP Professional.

  • Transferring User Files and Settings to a New Computer
  • Installing Windows XP Service Pack 2
  • Monitoring Windows XP Professional Security Status by Using Security Center

Adding Hardware to Windows XP Professional Clients

This module teaches students how to install new hardware devices as well as how to configure and maintain existing devices and their drivers. Students will also learn how to roll device drivers back to a previous version of the driver and to uninstall drivers and devices.

Resolving Boot Process Issues
