Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA)
Synopsis
The CCDA certification (Cisco Certified Design Associate) is the first of the design certifications and supports those wishing to follow the design route. This certification indicates knowledge of design for the infrastructure, and the ability to prepare the network for implementing solutions and services. CCDA certified professionals can design routed and switched network infrastructures involving LAN, WAN, and dial access services for businesses and organisations.
A CCDA certified individual will be able to:
- Determine a customer's requirements for network performance, security, capacity, and scalability
- Design a network infrastructure that meets these requirements
- Articulate the benefits of the design to a customer's satisfaction
- Develop and test a prototype network that validates the design-and demonstrate's that to a customer's satisfaction
Intended Audience
CCDA certification is intended for pre-sales and post-sales network engineers involved in the network design, planning and implementation.
Prerequisites:
Knowledge and skills to install, configure, and operate small networks. CCNA level knowledge is needed to prepare for the CCDA certification exam.

Re-certification
CCDA certifications are valid for three years. To re-certify, pass the current certification exam, or a Cisco Qualified Specialist exam (excluding Sales Specialist exams), or any Professional level exam bearing a prefix 642, or pass a CCIE written exam on or after October 1, 2004. Advancing to the next level or recertifying at the Professional level automatically renews all related Associate level certifications.
