PRINCE2™ Conversion — A 2-Day Course

Course Overview

Projects bring together resources, skills, technology and ideas to deliver business benefits or to achieve business objectives. Good project management helps to ensure that these benefits and objectives are delivered to an appropriate level of quality and within the constraints of time and cost. It is also an essential element in managing the risks inherent in change and innovation. PRINCE2™ is a comprehensive, structured project management method used extensively by the UK government. It is also widely recognised and used by the private sector, both in the UK and internationally. The method can be applied to all kinds of project including information systems projects.

The aim of the course is to take project managers and project team members who hold the foundation certificate in PRINCE2 and now require to upgrade this qualification by becoming a licenced PRINCE2™ Practitioner.

This course is accredited by APMG.

Course Objectives

On completion of the course the delegate will have:

  • Distinguished between the Components, Processes and Techniques used in PRINCE2
  • Identified the terminology used in PRINCE2
  • Applied PRINCE2 to a given scenario
  • Sat the PRINCE2 Practitioner examination

Suitable For

The event is designed for project managers who have attended the PRINCE2 Foundation event and now want to gain the Practitioners certificate.

The event is also appropriate for those people who have attended a Practitioner course but did not pass the practitioners exam and therefore would like to re-sit the practitioner exam.

Delegates must have sat and passed the Foundation exam in order to attend this course.

Examination and Certification

The event includes the PRINCE2 Practitioner examination which is taken on the morning of the last day. This level aims to measure whether a candidate would be able to apply PRINCE2 to the running and managing of a project within an environment supporting PRINCE2.

From the 1st of September 2007 the format of the PRINCE2 Practitioner Exam is changing. This will mean that the open-ended essay style questions will be replaced by objective testing questions.

The exam is:

  • Nine questions (selected from 9 of the 11 topics in the syllabus), with a scenario background and appendices
  • Each of the 9 questions is worth 40 marks, but there will be negative marking for incorrect answers
  • An overall score of 180 out of a possible 360 is required to pass
  • Three hour duration
  • Open-book examination (only the PRINCE2 Manual is allowed)

The new exam is most definitely not easier than the old exam. The APMG believe that the new style of exam will offer the following benefits

  • A significant reduction in delivering results to candidates
  • Increased consistency of marking
  • Easier for those unused to writing for extended periods of time
  • Candidates who suffer from dyslexia may find the objective testing style more acceptable to their condition
  • The format is more acceptable to international candidates who are not used to essay based examinations
  • Candidates with English as their second language could benefit from the change in style as less writing is involved and therefore more empahasis based on comprehension of the question
  • The format allows candidates to show their comprehension of PRINCE2 without having to worry about handwriting, grammar and spelling whilst taking the examination
  • The examination is able to test a wider area of the syllabus, thus ensuring a thorough comprehension throughout PRINCE2
